Manchester City vs Tottenham: Match Prediction - Guardiola or Frank to Continue Successful Start?

24 August 2025, Etihad Stadium

Both teams started the new Premier League season with victories and now face off at the Etihad Stadium. The Opta supercomputer gives Manchester City a 61.7% chance of victory in Saturday's clash.

City in impressive form

Pep Guardiola's team leads the table after the first round thanks to a convincing 4-0 win at Wolverhampton. Since the start of April, City have collected more points than any other team (26) and remain unbeaten in this period (8 wins, 2 draws).

Their defensive work is particularly impressive - they have the most clean sheets (7) and face the fewest shots per game of all teams in the division (7.6) since April.

Erling Haaland scored twice against Wolves and is approaching a historic milestone - he could become only the second player in Premier League history to score 50 home goals in fewer than 50 appearances (currently 48 goals in 48 games).

Tottenham as problematic opponent

Despite City's dominance, Guardiola will be cautious as Spurs have caused him problems recently. Last season they lost 4-0 to Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium and also 2-1 in the EFL Cup.

Spurs are among only three teams against whom Guardiola has played 10 or more games and won fewer than half (11 of 23, 48%), along with Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Frank starts promisingly

Thomas Frank has had a promising start at Spurs. Despite losing on penalties in the UEFA Super Cup against PSG after squandering a 2-0 lead, a convincing 3-0 win over Burnley followed.

Tottenham will try to win their first two Premier League games in a season for the first time since 2021-22. Spurs have won two of their last four league games at the Etihad Stadium, more than in their previous 11 visits combined.

Prediction and expectations

The Opta supercomputer gives City a 61.7% chance of victory, Tottenham has an 18.7% probability of winning and a draw 19.6%. The last four mutual games at the Etihad Stadium produced 21 goals, with the away team scoring at least twice in all four matches.

With Richarlison in form after two goals in the first round, Frank will hope for his team to cause an upset.
