CRISIS BATTLE: BUDIMIR TARGETS PERSONAL RECORD, CUCUMBER GROWERS COLLAPSE IN CLOSING STAGES
CD Leganés - CA Osasuna
April 7th, 2025
Butarque Stadium in southern Madrid will witness a clash between two teams caught in a results crisis. The home side Leganés, nicknamed "Los Pepineros" (Cucumber Growers), has lost their last three league matches, and if they fail against Osasuna as well, they would record their longest losing streak since September 2019, when they lost six times in a row.
Osasuna has no reason to rejoice either. The Rojillos (Reds) haven't won for seven consecutive league matches (4 draws, 3 losses) and haven't scored in the last two. If they fail to score against Leganés, it would be the first time since March 2023 that they haven't recorded a goal in three consecutive matches.
The mutual history in the top division is brief but clearly speaks in favor of Osasuna. Leganés has managed to win only once in five mutual duels in LaLiga - in the historically first encounter in November 2016 with a score of 2-0. Nevertheless, the Madrid team has a chance for a small milestone - if they were to earn points this time as well, it would be the first time in history they haven't recorded a defeat against Osasuna in both matches of one LaLiga season.
However, the Cucumber Growers love their home stadium Butarque. Osasuna has managed to win at this stadium only twice in ten mutual matches across all competitions, both victories with the same result of 0-1 - first in September 1999 in LaLiga Hypermotion and then in August 2019 in LaLiga.
Leganés has problems scoring points this season after falling behind. Only Real Sociedad (2) has gained fewer points from a losing position than Leganés (3). On the other hand, the Cucumber Growers are among the teams that most often lose a lead - they have lost 23 points from leading positions, which is the second-worst result in the competition after Valencia (25).
The closing stages of matches are extremely dangerous for Leganés. A full 39% of all goals conceded (18 out of 46) come in the last 15 minutes of the match, which is the highest percentage in the entire LaLiga. For the Cucumber Growers, however, it is fortunate that Osasuna has scored only 3 goals in this time period, the fewest of all teams in the competition.
The home team will rely on the awakening of striker Dani Raba, who is experiencing unprecedented form. In the last two league duels, he has scored three goals, the same number as in the previous 45 matches combined.
The key man for the visitors is Croatian striker Ante Budimir, who is experiencing a dream season. In 29 matches of this LaLiga season, he has already scored 15 goals and needs only two more goals to match his personal record from the 2023/24 season (17 goals). Seven of Budimir's goals have come from penalty kicks, making him the first Osasuna player in the 21st century to convert so many penalties in a single LaLiga season.
The visiting coach Vicente Moreno has a mixed record against Leganés. Out of a total of seven mutual matches, he has managed to win only once (3 draws, 3 losses), when in April 2021 he led Espanyol to a 2-1 victory in LaLiga Hypermotion. However, he has never managed to defeat the Cucumber Growers in the top division (2 draws, 1 loss).
