Cristhian Mosquera: La Liga's Best One-on-One Defender Is Joining Arsenal

Image
Arsenal are continuing to strengthen their squad, and the signing of Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia should push their other defenders to be even better. How do you improve the best defence in the Premier League? That was the question facing Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta as he headed into this summer transfer window. For each of the last two seasons, Arsenal have had easily the best defensive record, conceding at least 15 goals fewer than any other team (63). It's not really the most obvious area to try and improve, then, is it? But Arsenal finished second in both of those seasons and the one before that, and haven't won a single trophy in that time. Eight other Premier League teams have won something of note in that period. The Problem with Backup Players One problem – if that's what you can call it – in Arsenal's defence is that the drop-off in quality from the first-choice centre-backs to the second string is too great. That's always going to be a bit of ...

May 7, 2025 Paris Saint-Germain - Arsenal Parc des Princes, Paris, France Paris Saint-Germain will welcome London's Arsenal to their legendary Parc des Princes stadium on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, for the second leg of the Champions League semifinal. The French champions will be defending a 1-0 advantage from the first match, in which Ousmane Dembélé scored an early goal in the 4th minute to secure an important advantage before the home return leg. The first match in London clearly showed the difference in current form between the two teams. While PSG under Luis Enrique's guidance has risen to a new level and become the scourge of English clubs, Arsenal, playing their first Champions League semifinal since 2009, started nervously and was pushed back by their opponent in the opening phase of the match. In the return leg, several players will have key roles, and their individual statistics indicate how important they will be for their teams. PSG midfielder João Neves averag...

UNBEATEN ARSENAL WELCOME DRIBBLING POWERHOUSE PSG IN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL

Image
April 29, 2025 Arsenal - Paris SG Arsenal are preparing for their sixth meeting with Paris Saint-Germain, with the Gunners remaining unbeaten against the French giants (2 wins, 3 draws). PSG is the opponent that Arsenal have faced the most times in European competitions without ever losing (5 matches). Arsenal have already faced PSG in this season's Champions League, winning 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium in the league phase last October. Only one English team has managed to defeat PSG twice in a single edition of this competition: Manchester City in the 2020-21 semi-finals (2-1 away, 2-0 at home). The Parisian club also has an uncomfortable record on English soil - they have lost five of their last six away matches against English teams in the Champions League (1 win), falling to four different opponents in this run (Manchester City twice, Arsenal, Newcastle, and Aston Villa). This semi-final will be just the third in Champions League history where two Spanish managers face of...

MISSION BERNABÉU: CAN REAL MADRID PULL OFF THE IMPOSSIBLE AGAINST ARSENAL?

Image
Real Madrid v Arsenal (aggregate score: 0-3) April 16, 2025 The Santiago Bernabéu, the cathedral of football miracles, prepares for what could be one of the most memorable European nights in its storied history. Real Madrid, the 14-time European champions, find themselves in unfamiliar territory - needing to overturn a three-goal deficit against an Arsenal side that has never conceded a goal to the Spanish giants in European competition. The shocking 3-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium has left Carlo Ancelotti's men with a mountain to climb. History shows just how difficult their task is - Real Madrid have lost the first leg of a Champions League knockout tie by 3+ goals on five previous occasions, and were eliminated in three of the four previous instances. The sole exception came nearly 50 years ago against Derby County in 1975-76, when they overturned a 1-4 first-leg defeat to win 6-5 on aggregate. "The Bernabéu has seen many magical nights, but we need something spec...
