The Philadelphia Eagles opened their Super Bowl title defense with a 24-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, but their NFC dominance isn't guaranteed. The Packers have a projected 19.4% chance of reaching the Super Bowl according to calculations - just ahead of the Eagles at 19.3%. The Commanders follow with 13.3%, making these the only NFC teams with greater than 10% probability.

Both teams were eliminated by the Eagles last season - Philadelphia defeated Green Bay 22-10 in the wild card round and crushed Washington 55-23 in the conference championship. This game represents an opportunity for revenge and an important tiebreaker for potential identical records.

Parsons' Impact on Packers Defense

Conversely, without Parsons on the field, Goff completed 18 of 20 passes for 134 yards with a 111.3 QB rating. Green Bay achieved the second-highest pressure rate in Week 1 (58.1%), behind only Philadelphia (62.9%).

Commanders and Their Offensive Potential

Washington demonstrated their strength in a 21-6 victory over the New York Giants, accumulating 432 total yards with an average of 6.65 yards per play and a 47.7% success rate. The rushing game dominated with 220 yards, led by rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt (82 yards, touchdown) and Jayden Daniels (68 yards on 11 attempts).

Daniels completed 19 of 30 passes for 233 yards with a touchdown for a 98.3 QB rating, but was sacked three times and knocked down four times. This vulnerability could be crucial against the improved Packers pass rush.

Historical Parsons vs Daniels Rivalry

Parsons had dominant performances against Daniels last season while wearing Cowboys colors. In two mutual games, he recorded six QB hits, 5.5 knockdowns, and 4.5 sacks against the young quarterback. No other player sacked Daniels more than twice during 2024.

Daniels' 47 sacks were sixth-most in the NFL, indicating continuing problems with quarterback protection. Parsons now in green and gold represents a familiar threat in a new environment.

Strategic Aspects

Green Bay will rely on their strengthened pass rush and home field advantage to neutralize the Commanders' dynamic offense. Key will be the ability to utilize Parsons' versatility and unpredictability.

Washington must find ways to protect Daniels and utilize their rushing strength to establish rhythm. Their 44.3% success rate from last season shows consistent offensive production they'll want to replicate.
