Orlando Pride are trying to defend their double success after winning both the NWSL Shield and Championship last season. Coach Seb Hines is building an offense-focused team, despite falling to Washington Spirit in the preseason Challenge Cup. Main challengers include Washington Spirit as preseason tournament winners, Chicago Red Stars with new signings, and Racing Louisville as the season's dark horse.

Dramatic Golden Boot race

The battle for the top scorer crown is in full swing between Temwa Chawinga and Esther González, both with 10 goals. Assists will serve as the tie-breaker, with at least one of them expected to score in the upcoming weekend.

Story of the season: Jordyn Bloomer

The biggest surprise of the season is the rise of Racing Louisville goalkeeper Jordyn Bloomer. After Katie Lund's season-ending injury, she got her chance and in her first 9 games recorded 42 saves with two clean sheets. She became the first goalkeeper in NWSL history to save two penalties in one match.

Bloomer's journey wasn't easy - drafted as the 26th pick in 2022, she spent 2023 on loan in Australia's A-League, and after returning suffered a serious back injury requiring surgery. "That was honestly one of the hardest years of my life," she admits.

Unexpected Taylor Swift connection

The league joined the worldwide excitement around Taylor Swift's 12th album announcement. The number 13 holds special significance in NWSL, connected to Alex Morgan, who met Swift at the 2019 Teen's Choice Awards.
