Riyadh once again becomes the epicenter of global esports. Esports World Cup 2025 enters its final phase after eight weeks of intense battles across more than 20 gaming titles with a record prize pool exceeding $70 million.

Ultimate esports showdown

The event, which began in 2022 as Gamers8 and was rebranded in 2024 to Esports World Cup, represents a true Olympics of the virtual world. "Describing Esports World Cup 2025 as merely 'big' would be an understatement," says George Cristian Ciobanu from ESL FACEIT Group.

Each edition has grown in scope, technical depth and creative ambitions. What started as an ambitious esports festival has evolved into the most complex and prestigious esports broadcast in history.

Counter-Strike 2: Battle of titans

In CS2, main favorites dominate including Team Spirit, who have dominated major tournaments after adding player zweih. Team Vitality remains a threat to everyone, while MOUZ were the second strongest team in the world in the first half of 2025. The MongolZ were twice close to a major victory.

The format with 16 participants in a single-elimination bracket means every loss is the end. Two brackets of eight teams each, with only one from each advancing to the grand final.
