Baseball fans' attention is often drawn to stars with bats or pitchers with lightning speed, but when a team has an outstanding manager, they often become the center of attention. In the 2025 season, Terry Francona became the thirteenth manager to surpass the 2,000-win milestone.
Top 5 most successful managers
1. Connie Mack – 3,776 wins With an incredible 50 seasons with the Philadelphia Athletics (1901-1950), he remains untouchable. He led the team to nine pennants and five World Series. At age 87, he became the oldest manager to retire.
2. Tony LaRussa – 2,884 wins A law school graduate who implemented innovative strategies including the development of the one-inning closer. He led three teams to World Series titles.
3. John McGraw – 2,841 wins The fiery McGraw was the first manager to reach 10 pennants, later matched by Casey Stengel. He won three World Series with the New York Giants.
4. Bobby Cox – 2,504 wins Led the Atlanta Braves to a record 14 consecutive playoff appearances (1991-2005) and the 1995 World Series title.
5. Joe Torre – 2,326 wins Never won a playoff game in his first 14 seasons, but with the New York Yankees reached six pennants and four World Series titles.

Bruce Bochy continues with 2,233 wins, most recently leading the Texas Rangers to their first title in 2023. Terry Francona with 2,015 wins ended the Boston Red Sox's 86-year title drought in 2004.
Interesting facts
Joe McCarthy holds the highest winning percentage (.615) among managers with more than 1,000 wins. Bucky Harris became the youngest World Series winner at age 27, with his second title coming 23 years later.
