Chance Liga 2024/25: Opta Reveals Fascinating Statistics of Czech Top Flight
Opta's final season review reveals a series of remarkable facts about the Czech Chance Liga 2024/25. The Czech league excels in several parameters at the European level, while some teams and players achieved historic milestones.
Data analysis from all top 10 European competitions shows unique characteristics of the Czech league and the position of its participants in continental context.
League of Facts and Records
Chance Liga displays several exceptional characteristics on a European scale. Substitute players were responsible for 19.2% of all goals this season, representing the highest proportion among all ten leading European competitions, just ahead of Spain's La Liga (19.1%).
Other areas where the Czech league dominates include set pieces and combativeness. A full 13.6% of goals came from corners - again the highest proportion in Europe, ahead of the Dutch Eredivisie (12.5%). Teams averaged 28.0 open-play crosses per game, more than anywhere else including La Liga (26.2).
Game intensity is reflected in the number of duels - averaging 103 per game, which equals only the Belgian Jupiler Pro League and Portuguese Primeira Liga. Interestingly, despite high combativeness, relatively few yellow cards are issued (3.6 per game), indicating fair play.
Czech Character of the League
The most remarkable feature is the representation of domestic players. Czech footballers played 69.1% of all minutes this season - the highest proportion of local players among all top European leagues. For comparison, in La Liga it's only 57.5%.
This fact contrasts with the low number of goals from teenagers - only 18 in the entire season, which is the second-lowest total in Europe. The Czech league thus relies on experienced domestic players rather than young talents.
Slavia as European Elite
SK Slavia Praha achieved several remarkable results in European context. With 24 different goalscorers, they surpassed all teams from the top 10 competitions, where the maximum reached was 20 players (Ajax, Göztepe Izmir, and Teplice).
Slavia's defensive statistics are even more impressive. The Red and Whites conceded the fewest goals (18) not only in the Czech league but among all teams in the top 10 European competitions. Closest were Sporting Lisbon and Napoli with 27 goals conceded.
Success rate in duels (54%) was second-best in Europe behind Real Madrid (55.6%), while in aerial duels (58%) only Internazionale (59%) bettered Slavia.
Individual Performances and Records
Jan Kliment became the top scorer with 18 goals while also being one of Europe's most efficient players. With an Expected Goals value of only 9.6, he exceeded expectations by 8.4 goals, which is the third-highest difference in top European competitions.
Marek Matějovský provided a historic moment, scoring a hat-trick against České Budějovice at age 42 years and 354 days. He became the oldest player to score a hat-trick in top European leagues at least since 2000.
Season Contrasts
While Slavia dominated, České Budějovice experienced a catastrophic season as the only team without a win in the top 10 European leagues comparison. With just 16 goals and a -70 goal difference, they represented the continent's worst attack.
Paradoxically, Budějovice excelled in an unusual statistic - 31.3% of their goals came from throw-ins (5 out of 16), which is by far the highest proportion in Europe.
European Context
Chance Liga 2024/25 showed its specific traits in European context. High combativeness, dominance of corners, and the importance of substitute players distinguish it from other leagues. Meanwhile, strong representation of domestic players and low passing accuracy (75.6% - lowest in Europe) characterize Czech football style.
Opta's season review documents the Czech league as a competition with its own character, where a combination of physicality, set pieces, and domestic talent creates a unique football product on the European scale.
