VIKTORIA PLZEŇ VERSUS JABLONEC: A CLASH OF SPRING'S BEST TEAMS

May 24, 2025

FC Viktoria Plzeň - FK Jablonec

Doosan Arena, Plzeň

On Saturday, May 24, 2025, second-placed Viktoria Plzeň will face the excellent spring-season performers Jablonec in the 35th round of the Chance Liga. The duel at Plzeň's Doosan Arena will offer a clash between two teams currently in top form in the Czech top flight.

FC Viktoria Plzeň are still second in the table and can reach their highest league position since the 2021-22 season when they won the championship title. For Plzeň, it would be their eighth second place and their 15th placement in the top 3 of the league table. Only Sparta (28) and Slavia (22) have finished the season in the Czech league's top three more often.

The Plzeň team is among the most offensively dangerous squads across Europe this season when it comes to goals after high pressing. Viktoria has scored 10 goals from high turnover situations in this Chance Liga season – the only club in the top 10 European competitions to score more such goals is Bayern Munich (15). Liverpool, PSV, Real Madrid, and Nottingham Forest have the same number as Plzeň.

FK Jablonec have recorded their longest run of wins in the Czech league (7) and are also, after Slavia from the 2019-20 season, the second team to win all first four games of the championship round in a single league season. Jablonec is furthermore, besides Sparta, Slavia, Plzeň, and Slovan Liberec, the fifth team to win at least seven consecutive games in the Czech league.

Prince Adu fired a total of eight shots in the last Chance Liga matchday against Sigma Olomouc, with no Viktoria player shooting more in a single game this season. Adu fires on average four shots per 90 minutes in the second half of the season, and among players with at least 500 minutes in the league in 2025, only Lukáš Haraslín (5.4) and Vasil Kušej (4.3) have more shots per 90 minutes.

On Jablonec's side, David Puškáč stands out, having scored three goals in the last two Chance Liga matches, which no other player has managed in this timeframe. Impressively, Puškáč scored all of his goals while coming on the pitch late in the game. Puškáč needed by far the fewest minutes to score a goal in the last two games (15).

Saturday's duel will offer an interesting clash between the consistently successful Plzeň, which is trying to confirm its position as the second-best team in the league, and the surging Jablonec, which is experiencing its best series in the Czech top flight. While the home side Viktoria will rely on their offensive strength, especially after high pressing, the visitors from Jablonec will lean on their current winning mentality and the effectiveness of their substitutes.
