SK Slavia Praha - AC Sparta Praha

Eden Arena, Prague, Czech Republic

On Saturday, May 10, 2025, the highlight of the 33rd round of the Chance Liga will take place in Eden in the form of the Prague derby between SK Slavia Praha and AC Sparta Praha. The clash of traditional rivals brings not only the usual emotions but also interesting statistical connections and the possibility of equaling a historic record.

SK Slavia Praha won their 19th consecutive home league game against Plzeň in the last round. If Slavia defeats Sparta, they will equal the longest streak of consecutive home wins in the Czech league, held by Sparta themselves from the period between October 1999 and March 2001 (20 wins). Ironically, the "sewn ones" could equal their biggest rival's record in a direct confrontation.

AC Sparta Praha is experiencing an unusual crisis in the championship playoff round. While in previous seasons they did not lose any of the first two matches in the championship round (8 wins, 2 draws), Sparta has lost both opening playoff games this season. The "Letná" side has lost a total of eight games in this Chance Liga season, the most since the 2019-20 season when they recorded nine defeats.

Current form favors the home team. AC Sparta Praha suffered their fourth streak of two consecutive losses after a 1-3 home defeat against Jablonec in the last round of the Chance Liga. For the first time in the history of the Czech league, Sparta has experienced four streaks of consecutive defeats in the league during a single season.

Slavia excels in goal-scoring diversity. Tomáš Holeš became the 24th Slavia scorer in this Chance Liga season – no team in the top 10 European competitions has more than 20 different scorers this season (Turkish Göztepe has 20). Moreover, Slavia has fielded 32 outfield players this season, which means that 75% of them have scored. In this regard, only Bayer 04 Leverkusen (81%), Göztepe (80%), Inter Milan (78%), and Utrecht (76%) have a higher percentage of players who have scored.

Another interesting statistic is the number of players who have hit the woodwork. Ondřej Zmrzlý and Ivan Schranz became the 13th and 14th Slavia players to hit the post or crossbar in this Chance Liga season in the last match against Plzeň. No team in the top 10 European competitions has as many players hitting the woodwork (French Lille and Italian Cagliari both have 13 players).

Saturday's derby thus promises an exciting battle between a team with an extraordinary home record and offensive variability against a traditional rival who is struggling with an unusual results crisis at the end of the season.
