Brighton and Hove Albion - Liverpool FC

Amex Stadium, Brighton

On Monday, May 19, 2025, Brighton and Hove Albion will face Liverpool FC in the 38th round of the Premier League. The match offers a clash between a home team with solid results against The Reds and visitors fighting for their place in the elite four.

Having lost four of their first five Premier League home games against Liverpool (D1), Brighton are now unbeaten in their last two against the Reds at the Amex Stadium in the competition. The home team thus confirms their growing competitiveness against traditional big clubs.

Liverpool have won their last two Premier League games against Brighton, having won just one of their previous seven against the Seagulls beforehand (D4 L2). The visitors have thus recently found a formula against Brighton, who previously caused them problems.

A goal in this match will see Liverpool become only the ninth side to score in 100% of their away games in an English top-flight season (something the Reds have never achieved in any league season before), and only the fourth to do so in a league with at least 20 teams in it, after both Arsenal and Manchester United in 2001-02 (19 games), and Arsenal in 1930-31 (21 games). The Liverpool team thus stands on the threshold of a significant historical achievement.

Brighton lost 2-0 to Manchester United in their final home league game of 2023-24, but haven't done so in consecutive campaigns since a run of three between 2005-06 and 2007-08. The home team will thus strive for a positive conclusion to their home season.

Liverpool haven't lost their final away league game in any of the last six campaigns (W4 D2) since a 1-0 loss to Chelsea in 2017-18. Their last two have seen 14 goals scored in total – a 4-4 draw with Southampton in 2022-23 and a 3-3 stalemate with Aston Villa last season. The Reds thus traditionally end the season with attractive football.

Brighton have lost just one of their last seven Premier League home games (W4 D2), going down 3-0 against Aston Villa in April. The home team thus benefits from solid form on their own ground.

Liverpool have lost two of their last three Premier League away games (W1), as many as they had in their previous 30 (W17 D11). They lost 3-1 at Chelsea last time out, last losing consecutively on the road in the league in March/April 2023. The visitors are thus experiencing a certain results downturn away from their home stadium.

Brighton's Danny Welbeck – enjoying his best ever goalscoring season in the Premier League with 10 – has been involved in four goals in his last five Premier League appearances against Liverpool (2 goals, 2 assists). The home team's striker thus represents a specific threat to the visitors' defense.

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah has scored 16 away goals in the Premier League this season, the joint-most in a single campaign in the competition's history (level with Harry Kane in 2022-23 and Kevin Phillips in 1999-00). The Egyptian striker thus confirms his exceptional form on opponents' grounds.

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah could make his 300th Premier League appearance in this match. He would be just the fourth African player to reach this milestone, after Kolo Touré (353), Wilfried Zaha (305), and Jordan Ayew (303). Liverpool's star thus stands on the threshold of another significant career achievement.

Monday's duel at the Amex Stadium thus promises an interesting battle between a home team with a good record against Liverpool and a visiting side that is striving for a historic attacking record and further success for their star Mohamed Salah.
