Brazilian side Fortaleza will host Chile's Colo-Colo on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the legendary Castelão stadium in a Copa Libertadores group stage clash. A match influenced by past controversies and interesting statistical data promises a fascinating battle in the fight to advance to the knockout phase.

Brazilian teams have dominated home matches against Chilean opponents in the Copa Libertadores - winning 16 of the last 18 head-to-head encounters. In only two instances have Chilean teams managed to win on Brazilian soil, with one of these triumphs recorded by Colo-Colo against Fortaleza in 2022 (2-1). The second victory was claimed by Huachipato over Grêmio in 2024 (2-0).

Fortaleza is experiencing an unusual home crisis in South America's most prestigious club competition. They have lost their last two home games in the Copa Libertadores, while in their previous five home matches, they were defeated only once (2 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss). Coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda's team will be looking to break this negative streak.

Colo-Colo, nicknamed "Cacique," has found comfort on away grounds - avoiding defeat in 10 of their last 14 away matches in the Copa Libertadores (3 wins, 7 draws, 4 losses). However, the Chilean powerhouse has kept just one clean sheet during this period, a 1-0 victory over Argentina's Godoy Cruz in February 2024.

The match takes on a special flavor with the participation of striker Juan Lucero in Fortaleza's colors. The Argentine forward has scored four goals for Colo-Colo in the Copa Libertadores. He is among just seven players in history who have scored both for and against "Cacique" in the tournament's history.

Fortaleza's coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda also holds a special position in this duel. The Argentine strategist is the longest-serving coach among the 60 teams from the top three Brazilian divisions, having begun his tenure at Fortaleza in May 2021. Only Abel Ferreira of Palmeiras (November 2020) and Jorge Castilho of Maringá (April 2021) have been in their positions longer than Vojvoda.

The first meeting between these teams in the current Copa Libertadores 2025 group stage brought extraordinary drama. The match at the Monumental Stadium in Santiago was suspended at 0-0 in the 68th minute after home fans invaded the pitch. CONMEBOL's Disciplinary Commission subsequently decided to award Fortaleza a 3-0 victory by default.

Both teams will therefore enter the return fixture with different motivations - Fortaleza wants to confirm their awarded victory with an actual triumph on the field, while Colo-Colo seeks revenge and points crucial for advancing from the group.
