FRIDAY MAY 30 - CHOMUTOV: DECISIVE BATTLE FOR THE FUTURE!
May 30, 2025
Women's Nations League Summer Stadium Chomutov - 5:00 PM
This is the day the entire Czech women's football community has been waiting for! Our lionesses will take the field on Friday in Chomutov against Croatia in a match that could decide their future in the Nations League. After stumbling against Ukraine, they found themselves in a difficult situation, but against Croatia they already showed their strength this year with a 4-0 victory. Now they must confirm their quality in front of the home crowd and take another step towards the coveted promotion to League A.
Kateřina Svitková is having the season of her life. The top scorer of the FORTUNA League has an incredible 24 goals in sixteen competitive matches in the 2025 calendar year. That's an average of 1.5 goals per game - numbers that even the best male strikers would envy. In the national team, she has 4 goals in the Nations League, ranking her in a shared third position among the top scorers of the entire competition.
The twenty-nine-year-old midfielder, who previously played for Chelsea, is both the brain of Czech play and its best finisher. Her form is crucial for Czech hopes - when Svitková plays at one hundred percent, the entire team looks completely different. Against Croatia, she already scored once in the 4-0 victory and will want to continue her incredible form.
She has support from teammate Khýrová, who leads in assists with 5 goal passes. This duo forms a deadly combination that has already decided many matches this year. When Khýrová and Svitková find each other on the pitch, opponents have problems.
Even though they play "only" League B, Czech women footballers statistically measure up to the absolute European elite. With 10 goals scored, they're chasing the top five of the entire Nations League and share first place in League B with Slovenia. Overall, they occupy a fantastic 6th position across all divisions.
Even more impressive is their defensive record - only 3 goals conceded ranks them among the five best defenses in League B. This shows what a balanced team the Czech lionesses are. They can not only attack through Svitková and Khýrová but also defend reliably.
The current group position - 2nd place with 7 points - would mean a playoff for promotion to League A. That's exactly the goal that coach Jitka Klimková dreams about with the team. Promotion to the European elite would be a historic success for Czech women's football and would open doors to participation in more prestigious tournaments.
While the Czech lionesses fight for promotion, Croatia finds itself in the completely opposite situation. In last place in the group without a single point, with a leaky defense that has conceded 12 goals - the most in League B. That's a statistic that speaks clearly: Croatian women's football is going through tough times.
Croatia's biggest problem is in defense. When you concede 3 goals per match, it's hard to think about points. The offense isn't much better - only 2 goals in four matches means an average of 0.5 goals per game. For comparison: Svitková alone has scored twice as many goals as the entire Croatian team.
The Summer Stadium in Chomutov has a magical atmosphere for Czech women footballers. In the last match at this stadium, they achieved something incredible - they beat the reigning world champions from Spain 2-1 in European Championship qualification. A year earlier, they handled Morocco with a 2-0 victory at the same venue. Chomutov simply suits the Czech lionesses.
The atmosphere of the small stadium, where the audience is close to the players, creates an intimate environment where every emotion transfers directly to the pitch. Czech players love this type of environment - they feel the fans' support and can handle the pressure.
Coach Klimková believes in the power of home environment: "Chomutov is a special place for us. The players feel support here and can show their best football. I believe that this time too we'll use the home advantage and deliver a performance we deserve."
Klára Cahynová, team captain, speaks clearly: "We have information that Croatia will come with a rejuvenated team. But overall, I think it will be very similar to the first match. We will dominate the ball, score the first goal quickly, and enjoy it all."
The captain's confidence comes from clear facts. The Czech lionesses already demolished Croatia 4-0 this year, and statistics clearly show the vast difference between both teams. But Cahynová also knows that football isn't played on paper and every match is a new story.
The mathematics are clear: the Czech lionesses need victory to maintain realistic hopes for promotion to League A. The current second place with 7 points would mean a playoff, but the three-point gap to leading Ukraine is still surmountable. If the Czechs beat Croatia and Ukraine stumbles, the situation could change dramatically.
Coach Klimková has a clear plan: "We must win both remaining matches and hope that Ukraine drops points. We have the quality for it, we showed it at the beginning of the group. Now it's time to return to the performances that got us to this position."
Promotion to League A would mean the opportunity to measure strength with Europe's best teams - Spain, England, Germany, France. That's every Czech footballer's dream and motivation that can work miracles.
According to the latest information, all key players are ready to play. "We have a few minor health problems, but nothing that should limit us. Svitková, Khýrová, Cahynová - all are ready to give their maximum in the match," confirms coach Klimková before the game.
The Czech Republic vs Croatia match could be a historic moment for Czech women's football. Victory would bring promotion to League A closer, which would be a huge success. Defeat would mean the end of promotion dreams and the need to start over.
"This is one of the most important matches in the history of our women's football. The players know it and are ready for it. I believe that fans in Chomutov will create a great atmosphere and help us to victory," says captain Cahynová.
Kickoff Friday, May 30, at 5:00 PM at Summer Stadium in Chomutov.
