FLUMINENSE TARGETS RECORD STREAK IN BOLIVIA AGAINST GV SAN JOSÉ
May 8, 2025
GV San José - Fluminense
On Thursday, May 8, 2025, Bolivian GV San José will face Brazilian Fluminense in a return match of the CONMEBOL Sudamericana group stage. The duel offers an interesting confrontation between teams with different playing styles and a specific history of mutual encounters.
Fluminense has won five of their seven games against Bolivian opposition in CONMEBOL competitions, including the crushing 5-0 victory over GV San José in the first phase of the group in 2025. However, the Brazilians should be cautious – the Bolivians managed to defeat "Flu" in the remaining two matches, both of which were played on home soil.
The "Tricolor" from Rio de Janeiro is experiencing their longest unbeaten run away from home in the CONMEBOL Sudamericana (4 matches, 2 wins, 2 draws), equaling a similar streak from 2009 (2 wins, 2 draws). Fluminense will be looking to extend this streak to five matches for the first time in the club's history in this tournament.
The Brazilian side's playing style is remarkable. Only 8.3% of Fluminense's passes in the 2025 Sudamericana have been long, the lowest percentage of any team in the group stage. The only other club below the 10% threshold in this regard is Cruzeiro (8.8%).
The Brazilian team also excels in squad rotation. Fluminense has used 30 different players during the current CONMEBOL Sudamericana 2025 group stage, at least six more than any other team in this phase of the competition.
Individual statistics are also interesting. Two of the three players with the most long ball carries (over 10 meters) in the 2025 CONMEBOL Sudamericana group stage play for Fluminense: Kevin Serna (19) and Keno (15).
Thursday's match in the challenging high-altitude conditions of Bolivia will be a test for the Brazilian visitors, but also an opportunity to achieve a historic record of five away games without defeat in this competition. GV San José, on the other hand, will rely on home advantage and previous successes when they managed to defeat the Brazilian side on their turf.
