On Thursday, May 8, 2025, Uruguayan Racing will face Argentine Huracán in a return match of the CONMEBOL Sudamericana group stage. Both teams enter the encounter with different ambitions and interesting statistical data that suggest a potentially exciting showdown.

Huracán thrashed Racing 5-0 when the teams met in the current edition of the Sudamericana on Argentine soil. If "Globo," as the Argentine side is nicknamed, manages to win again, they will achieve consecutive victories against Uruguayan opponents in CONMEBOL tournaments for the first time in their history.

Racing has minimal experience hosting Argentine clubs in CONMEBOL competitions. Huracán's offensive strength in the first halves is remarkable. The Argentine team has scored six goals in the opening periods of their matches in the CONMEBOL Sudamericana, more than any other team since the start of the cup's group phase. A full 86% of their goals in the current season came in the first halves (6 out of 7).

Walter Mazzantti from Huracán is the player who has drawn the most fouls in the attacking third of the pitch in the group stage of the 2025 CONMEBOL Sudamericana, with five. This statistic suggests that his penetrations into the penalty area will pose a significant threat to the home defense.

On the Uruguayan Racing side, Esteban Da Silva stands out with his five ball recoveries in the final third of the pitch during the group stage of the 2025 CONMEBOL Sudamericana, making him the second-best in the entire competition. Only Alexander González from Boston River managed to surpass his performance with seven ball recoveries.

Thursday's encounter thus promises an interesting confrontation between a team with excellent productivity in the opening stages and a side that will try to use their pressing quality and home advantage to achieve a surprising result against the Argentine favorites.
