On Sunday, May 18, 2025, SK Sigma Olomouc will face FC Viktoria Plzeň in the 34th round of the Chance Liga. The match offers a clash between two teams with different ambitions at the end of the season.

SK Sigma Olomouc have won just one of the last eight Chance Liga matches – a 3-0 home victory against České Budějovice on matchday 30. Since matchday 26, only Slovácko and Bohemians have as few wins as Sigma (1; D3 L4), with only České Budějovice recording no win in this timeframe. The home team is thus experiencing a significant results slump.

FC Viktoria Plzeň have exactly as many points (68) as they had at this stage of the previous Chance Liga season. However, since the league reform in the 2018-19 season, Viktoria were below 68 points at this stage only once (58 in 2022-23; 55 in 2020-21 when no extra rounds were played). Viktoria have their highest position (2nd) since 2021-22 when they won the title. The Plzeň side thus confirms their ambitions to return to the absolute top of the league.

SK Sigma Olomouc are goalless in all championship round games in this Chance Liga season. Sigma last had three goalless league games in a row in February last year. Furthermore, Sigma are alongside Baník from 2018-19 the only teams without a single goal scored in the first three matchdays of a championship round. The Olomouc team is experiencing a significant scoring crisis.

The duel between SK Sigma Olomouc and FC Viktoria Plzeň will see two teams with plenty of headed moments in this Chance Liga season. Viktoria have the most headed goals this season (12), while Sigma have conceded 11 headed goals, with only České Budějovice conceding more (12; Slovácko also 11). The key to Sunday's match may thus lie in aerial duels.

Lukáš Kalvach recorded his seventh assist on the last Chance Liga matchday against Baník and is on the same number as in the last season. In the two seasons prior to 2023-24, he recorded six assists, and thus, Kalvach is the only player to record at least six assists in each of the most recent league seasons in the Chance Liga, with only 15 other players achieving the same in the top 10 European competitions. Plzeň's midfielder represents a key creative element of the visiting team.

Sunday's duel in Olomouc promises an interesting battle between the home team struggling with finishing and the visiting side seeking to strengthen their second position in the table and confirm their form.
