MFK Karviná – SK Slavia Praha
April 12th, 2025
The Municipal Stadium in Karviná will be the venue for one of the most interesting battles of the 29th round of the Chance Liga on Saturday. The home team Karviná is experiencing a fantastic period. The Silesians are unbeaten in their last six league matches (4 wins, 2 draws), which is their second-longest series without defeat in the history of Czech professional football. They recorded a longer streak only between December 2017 and April 2018, when under the leadership of coaches Lubomír Vlk and Josef Mucha they played eight matches without a loss (3 wins, 5 draws).
Karviná's current form is extraordinary. The Karviná team has won three league matches in a row, which they last managed in April 2019. If they were now able to earn points against one of the league giants, they would move even closer to their historic unbeaten series.
Slavia Prague has a very good historical record with Karviná. Of nine away matches on Silesian soil in Czech professional competitions, they have lost only once – during the very first mutual duel in March 1997 (0-1). Interestingly, although they have scored three goals in each of the last three league matches at Karviná's stadium, they are not doing well away from home this season. The "Sewn Ones" have not scored in their last two away duels in the Chance Liga and overall have not won any of their five away matches this season (3 draws, 2 losses).
One of Karviná's main weapons is Sahmkou Camara. The Guinean defender has recorded the second-highest number of duels in the spring part of the Chance Liga (131) after Tomáš Ladra (133). However, Camara, together with Filip Panák, has won the most duels (77), and only Panák has recorded more aerial duels (83) than Camara (69) after the winter break.
The creative pillars of coach Jaroslav Veselý's team are David Planka and Denny Samko. Both have recorded three assists each in the spring part of the Chance Liga and, together with Tomáš Wiesner from Sparta and Ivan Schranz from Slavia, have the most assists after the winter break. Only Sparta has more assists in 2025 (11) than Karviná (10, the same as Plzeň), with Planka and Samko being responsible for six of them.
Slavia will rely on Vasil Kušej, who scored two goals in the last league match against Hradec Králové. He thus became the 21st different scorer for Slavia Prague in this league season, which is the most of any team in the 15 best European competitions (Utrecht is second with 19 different scorers).
