UNBEATABLE AUGSBURG VS GOAL MACHINE KANE: A BATTLE OF RECORD FORM IN THE BUNDESLIGA
FC Augsburg - FC Bayern München
April 4th, 2025
Munich's Bayern historically favors Augsburg. The Bavarian giant has won nine of thirteen away matches against Augsburg in the Bundesliga (1 draw, 3 losses), representing a 69% success rate. This is the highest percentage of victories at any opponent's ground against which Bayern has played at least 10 away matches in the German league.
Nevertheless, Friday evening is a favorable sign for Augsburg. The Fuggerstädter have won only two of their last 20 Bundesliga matches against the table leader, but both of these triumphs were recorded in Friday home duels - 2-1 against Borussia Dortmund in March 2019 and 2-1 against Bayern Munich in November 2021.
Both teams are experiencing an excellent spring season. Bayern has collected 23 points in the second half of the competition, the most of all teams, while Augsburg is third with 20 points (Bayer Leverkusen: 21). Augsburg has already surpassed their point total from the entire autumn part (19) and has never before had so many points after 10 matches in the spring part of the Bundesliga.
The home team is experiencing a historic streak. Augsburg is unbeaten in their last 11 Bundesliga matches (6 wins, 5 draws), which is a club record and currently the longest such streak in the entire German league. With 39 points after 27 rounds, they have matched their best season in the top flight (same as in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons) and have already managed to earn as many points as in the entire previous season.
Bayern excels with phenomenal offense. With 65 points from 27 matches, they are experiencing their best Bundesliga season in the last seven years - in the 2017/18 season, they had 66 points at this stage. However, Munich has already conceded the same number of goals in the spring part as during the entire autumn (13) and could now play five league matches in a row without a clean sheet for the first time under Vincent Kompany.
The match will offer a clash between the best defense and attack of 2025. Augsburg has conceded only four league goals in the calendar year, the fewest of all clubs in the five best European competitions. On the other hand, only Paris Saint-Germain (35) has scored more goals in elite European leagues this calendar year than Bayern Munich (31).
Expected goals statistics clearly speak in favor of the visitors. Bayern has the highest expected goals value in the Bundesliga this season (68.1 xG), while Augsburg has the lowest (26.6 xG). The home team has also had the fewest big chances in the competition (42), while Bayern has had the most (137).
Leroy Sané is experiencing a career-best season. After two goals in the last match, he now has nine Bundesliga goals this season, his personal record in one top-flight season. In the calendar year 2025, he has contributed to nine goals in 12 Bundesliga matches (6 goals, 3 assists), which is already more than for the entire year 2024, when he recorded 7 goal involvements in 23 matches (3 goals, 4 assists).
Harry Kane ended his five-match wait for a Bundesliga goal in the last match against St. Pauli. He hasn't scored more goals against any other team in the German top flight than against Augsburg (6). Kane recorded one of his two "lupenreiner" or "perfect" Bundesliga hat-tricks (3 goals scored uninterrupted in one half) in the autumn match against Augsburg.
The goalkeeper battle will offer a contrast between the best and the worst. Finn Dahmen of Augsburg has saved 90% of shots on his goal this Bundesliga season – the best record among regular goalkeepers. In contrast, Jonas Urbig of Bayern has caught only 50% of shots and conceded six goals – no goalkeeper has ever conceded more goals in his first three Bundesliga matches for Bayern.
