SIGMA ENTERS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND AGAINST IN-FORM SLAVIA WITH RECORD POINTS TALLY
April 26, 2025
SK Sigma Olomouc vs SK Slavia Praha
The championship round of the Chance Liga kicks off with an attractive clash between Sigma Olomouc and Slavia Prague. While the home side is enjoying their best season in recent years, the visitors are chasing a historic points record in the Czech league.
Sigma Olomouc enters the championship group with great confidence after winning their final regular season match against České Budějovice. The Haná club collected 43 points in the regular season, their best result since the 2017-18 season when they amassed 55 points. Sigma will play in the championship group for only the second time in their history. In the 2022-23 season, they lost their first playoff match at home to Sparta 0-1, but now hope for a better start.
Slavia Prague has 78 points after the regular season, which is a historically exceptional achievement. Only Slavia themselves in the 2020-21 season (78) and Sparta in the 2013-14 season (79) have ever collected so many points after 30 rounds of the Czech league. Slavia won the opening matches of the last two championship rounds, and if they manage to gain at least 10 more points in the playoffs, they will break the historical points record of the Czech league, currently held by Sparta from last season (87 points).
The Prague club boasts an impressive home form. Thanks to their victory against Slovácko in the final league round of the regular season, they recorded their 18th consecutive home league win. Only Sparta has recorded more consecutive home wins, reaching 20 victories in March 2001 (Slavia also won 18 consecutive home games between March 2013 and August 2014). Slavia managed to win all their home matches in this regular season, which previously only Sparta achieved in the 2013-14 season.
Slavia also excels in key game moments. This Chance Liga season, they have scored the most opening goals (23) and won the most first halves (19). The Prague side failed to win only one match this season after scoring the first goal (1-1 against Hradec Králové in November), and along with Plzeň (15) and Hradec Králové (9), they have won all their matches in which they led after the first half (19).
Also worth noting are the performances of Olomouc's Filip Zorvan, who recorded his sixth set-piece assist of this Chance Liga season in the last match against České Budějovice. Among all players in the TOP 10 European competitions, only Abdelkahar Kadri from Belgian side Kortrijk has as many. Zorvan has contributed to 15 goals this season (5 goals, 10 assists), which is the same number as in his previous four seasons combined.
