Circuito de Jerez - Angel Nieto, Spain
The European leg of the MotoGP season kicks off this Sunday with the legendary race at the Jerez circuit. Championship leader Marc Marquez returns to his native Spain, where he will look to confirm his dominance, while reigning champion Jorge Martin will be absent from the start following a horrific accident in Qatar.
The situation ahead of the fifth race of the season is filled with dramatic storylines. Marc Marquez leads the championship with three victories from the four races held so far. His main rival Jorge Martin, the reigning champion, was only released from the hospital this week after a terrifying crash in Qatar and will miss his home race, which is a significant blow for Spanish fans.
"Jerez is always special. When you hear your name being chanted in every corner, it gives you extra energy," says Marquez, who could extend his lead in the championship even further.
In qualifying, Fabio Quartararo on Yamaha surprised everyone by taking an unexpected pole position with a time of 1:35.610. Marc Marquez will start from second place just 0.033 seconds behind, while Francesco Bagnaia, last year's winner at this circuit, sits in third position (+0.145 s).
The Circuito de Jerez - Angel Nieto is an iconic venue in MotoGP history. The first races were held here in 1987, and since 1989, the circuit has been a continuous part of the championship calendar. The race will take place on a 4.42 km track with riders completing 25 laps. Francesco Bagnaia holds the circuit record.
The Jerez race marks an important milestone in the calendar as the first European race of the 2025 season. Riders will remain on European circuits until the end of September, and after the wild start to the season in overseas and Asian races, more stable weather and familiar tracks are expected.
Remember that MotoGP once again offers a packed weekend with qualifying and sprint race on Saturday and the main race on Sunday at 14:00. Last year's podium in Jerez was occupied by Francesco Bagnaia, Marc Marquez, and Marco Bezzecchi.
Can Marquez confirm his dominance on home soil, or will Ducati, led by Bagnaia, return to the spotlight? Jerez promises a thrilling spectacle that will kick off the European part of the season in grand style.
