JUBILEE TENTH VICTORY IN A ROW? REAL'S ANOETA FORTRESS AGAINST MALLORCA'S CRISIS
Real Sociedad - RCD Mallorca
April 12th, 2025
Saturday's LaLiga program will bring a clash of two teams with different streaks. The home team Real Sociedad is almost invincible against Mallorca at their own stadium - they have won each of the last 10 home matches, which is the third-longest series of consecutive home victories against the same opponent in their history in the competition (14 against Athletic Bilbao between 1969 and 1982 and 12 against Espanyol between 1944 and 1959).
The clean sheet statistic is even more impressive. San Sebastian hasn't conceded against Mallorca in each of their last seven home LaLiga matches (7 wins). Only against UD Las Palmas in 1977 (nine) and Real Valladolid in 1999 (eight) have they kept more clean sheets in consecutive home matches in the competition's history.
Real is also in good form. They haven't lost any of their last three LaLiga matches (2 wins, 1 draw), winning the last two, while previously they had lost six of eight matches in the competition (2 wins). If they succeed for the third time, it would be the first time since March 2024 that they would record three league wins in a row.
On the contrary, Mallorca is experiencing away misery. They haven't won any of their last five away matches in LaLiga (2 draws, 3 losses), which is their longest series without an away win in the current league campaign. Moreover, they have conceded at least one goal in each of the last 11 LaLiga matches (16 goals in total), which is their longest series of conceded goals in the competition since April 2022 (14 matches, 28 goals).
Nevertheless, there is hope for Mallorca. The island team has scored in two of their last four matches against Real Sociedad in LaLiga (1 win, 1 draw, 2 losses), while previously they had lost in six consecutive mutual matches. If they were to win this time, for the first time since September 2005, they would record two wins in a row against San Sebastian in the top flight.
A key factor could be who scores the first goal. Real Sociedad hasn't lost in the last 12 LaLiga matches in which they scored first (11 wins, 1 draw), since August 2024 against Deportivo Alavés (1-2 loss).
The home team's star striker Mikel Oyarzabal has a special statistic against Mallorca. He hasn't scored in any of his six matches against this opponent in LaLiga, which is one of four teams against which he has failed to score in the competition, along with Málaga (five matches), Deportivo La Coruña (four), and Sporting Gijón (three).
On the visitors' side, defender Martin Valjent is worth noting, having scored two goals in the last five LaLiga matches, while previously he hadn't scored in 149 matches in the competition.
The coaches' duel promises an interesting battle. Real Sociedad coach Imanol Alguacil has won six of 11 matches against Jagoba Arrasate in LaLiga (3 draws, 2 losses), which is more than against any other coach in the competition.
