GHOST STADIUM IN BERGAMO: WHERE HOME FANS HAVE FORGOTTEN WHAT A GOAL LOOKS LIKE

Atalanta - Bologna

April 13th, 2025, 12:30 PM

Sunday's midday duel will offer a clash between two teams in completely different form. While Bologna is experiencing one of the best seasons in its modern history, Atalanta is going through an extraordinary period of results crisis.

Bologna has been almost unbeatable against Bergamo in recent years. The Rossoblù have not lost in their last four league matches against Atalanta (3 wins, 1 draw), while previously they had lost 13 of their previous 17 matches (2 wins, 2 draws). If the Emilians were to earn points this time, it would be only the second time in history that they would record five consecutive matches without defeat against the Bergamo team. They first managed this between February 1953 and May 1955 (4 wins, 1 draw).

Moreover, Atalanta is significantly troubled by their home environment. The Nerazzurri are the only team from the upper half of the table that has not yet won a home match in 2025 (4 draws, 3 losses). In this period, they have gained four points at home (the same as Venezia), which is more than only Lecce (three) and Empoli (two). Additionally, Atalanta has not scored in four home Serie A matches and could for the first time in the competition's history remain without a goal in five consecutive home matches.

In direct contrast stands Bologna's away form. The Rossoblù have won their last two away matches in Serie A and could record three away wins in a row for the first time since February and March 2024. One of these three was precisely a victory against Atalanta (2-1 at the Gewiss Stadium).

The visiting team can boast the fourth most productive attack in Serie A with 51 goals scored, fewer only than Lazio (52), Atalanta (63), and Inter (69). The last time the Rossoblù scored more goals after 32 played matches in Serie A was the 1965/66 season (59, they finished second).

Bergamo currently has the longest losing streak in the league. Atalanta has lost all of its last three league matches without scoring, and in coach Gasperini's era, they have never suffered four consecutive defeats. Overall, they have not recorded four consecutive defeats in the competition since the period between December 2015 and January 2016 (with Eduardo Reja as coach), while they have not lost so many matches in a row without scoring a goal since September/October 2014 (Stefano Colantuono as coach).

Atalanta excels in long-range shooting. Excluding direct free kicks, the Bergamo team has scored the most goals from outside the penalty area in Serie A this season (9), including one against Bologna earlier this season (goal by Lazar Samardzic). However, the last long-range goal from open play by the Bergamo team at Gewiss Stadium in Serie A was scored on October 30, 2024, by Davide Zappacosta against Monza.

Charles De Ketelaere is experiencing an extraordinarily unproductive period. The Belgian forward has not been involved in a goal in 14 league matches. During this period, he is the player who has the most touches in the opponent's penalty area in Serie A without scoring a goal or providing an assist (56), 23 more than the second in this ranking (João Félix, 33).

On the other hand, Bologna's Dan Ndoye is in the form of his life. He has been involved in 11 goals (scored eight, assisted three) in 26 matches in Serie A. Since the beginning of the 25th round (when he scored two goals against Turin after a series of eight matches without goal involvement), he is the player who has contributed to the most goals in Serie A (6 – 5 goals, 1 assist).
