GENOA'S IMPREGNABLE FORTRESS AGAINST BROKEN UDINESE: PINAMONTI PREPARES COMEBACK AGAINST FAVORITE OPPONENT

Genoa - Udinese

April 4th, 2025

Stadio Luigi Ferraris has transformed into an almost impregnable fortress for Genoa. The Genoa club has won four of its five home matches in 2025 and with an average of 2.60 points per match, it ranks among Italy's best home teams. Only Bologna (2.71), Roma and Inter (both 2.67) have better records at home.

Udinese is now traveling to Luigi Ferraris, against whom Genoa has a very good record. The Rossoblu are unbeaten in their last six mutual duels (2 wins, 4 draws) and have won the last two matches. If they succeed this time as well, they would achieve three consecutive victories over the Friulians, which they have only managed once in history - when they triumphed over Udinese five times between 1993 and 2008.

A key factor in Genoa's matches against Udinese is defense. The Genoese have kept a clean sheet in four of the last five mutual duels, which is the same number as in the previous 24 matches combined. Most recently at home, they defeated Udinese on February 24, 2024, with a result of 2-0.

Mutual matches in Genoa are traditionally very balanced. From the last ten duels at Ferraris Stadium, both teams have won twice and drawn six times. Interestingly, both teams have scored exactly 13 goals in these ten matches.

Udinese arrives in poor form. After six matches without defeat (4 wins, 2 draws), Kosta Runjaic's men have lost their last two league duels - against Hellas Verona and Inter. Only once during Runjaic's era have they recorded three defeats in a row, between October and November 2024.

The Friulians have a specific record - 9 of their 11 wins this season have come against teams with worse positions in the table. However, they lost the last such match against Verona, and if they were to succumb to Genoa now, it would be only the second series of consecutive defeats against weaker teams in the last five years.

Interestingly, both teams are very passive in the opening phases of matches. No one in Serie A has shot less than Genoa and Udinese in the first 15 minutes of play - both teams have recorded exactly 38 shots, the same as Turin.

The Genoa team has problems capitalizing on ball recoveries. Only 12% of their high ball recoveries end with a shot, which is the lowest ratio in the entire league. Paradoxically, among teams in the bottom half of the table, it is Genoa that has initiated the most attacking sequences starting 40 meters or closer to the opponent's goal (199).

Genoa striker Andrea Pinamonti, who hasn't scored or assisted in his last five league matches, can look forward to his favorite opponent. He has already scored four goals against Udinese in Serie A (including one in the autumn mutual duel). He has scored more goals only against AS Roma (5), and he has the same record with four goals against Bologna.

Attention will also be focused on Oumar Solet from Udinese, who scored his first goal in Serie A in the last match. Since his January debut, he is the defender with the most completed dribbles in the competition (19). Moreover, he is among only four defenders who have recovered more than 50 balls and won more than 50 duels in Serie A in 2025 (56+56), along with Dodô, Theo Hernández, and his upcoming adversary Johan Vásquez (60+77).
