FRANKFURT'S HOME INVINCIBILITY FACES LEIPZIG'S RISING FORM UNDER LÖW
April 26, 2025
Eintracht Frankfurt - RB Leipzig
Saturday's Bundesliga clash offers a meeting between third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt and a revitalized RB Leipzig. While the "Eagles" can rely on their home invincibility against the "Red Bulls," the visitors have significantly improved under their new coach.
Eintracht Frankfurt have lost both of their competitive meetings against RB Leipzig this season (3-0 away in the DFB-Pokal and 2-1 away in the Bundesliga). However, Eintracht remains unbeaten at home against Leipzig (4 wins, 5 draws). Leipzig haven't faced any other opponent away from home as often in professional football without ever winning.
RB Leipzig's tally of 49 points from 30 matches represents their second-worst campaign in the Bundesliga – they have only ever been worse off at this stage in 2017/18 (47 points), the only season in which they have ever missed out on qualifying for the Champions League (finished 6th). Under new coach Zsolt Löw, however, they've found form – only Werder (9) have picked up more points from their last three Bundesliga games than Leipzig's seven.
RB Leipzig won 3-2 in Wolfsburg in their most recent away game, ending a run of seven away matches without a win (4 draws, 3 losses). Zsolt Löw could now become just the second head coach to win both of his first two away games with the "Red Bulls" (Julian Nagelsmann won each of his first 3).
Eintracht Frankfurt's tally of 52 points is the lowest for any third-placed side after 30 Bundesliga matchdays across the last seven seasons (Leverkusen had 51 at this stage in 2017/18). Statistics, however, favor Frankfurt – 90% of teams to have at least 52 points after 30 games of a Bundesliga campaign have gone on to finish inside the top four.
Defensive strength against improving offense will be a key factor in the match. Eintracht Frankfurt have kept three clean sheets in their last four Bundesliga games, something only Werder have also managed (RB Leipzig: 0), and have conceded just twice in this timeframe. However, with only four goals scored, no team's matches have produced as few goals over the last four matchdays as the "Eagles'" (6 total).
Frankfurt's home form is impressive. Eintracht have won each of their last two Bundesliga home games, keeping a clean sheet in both. They last put together a run of three straight wins without conceding in early 2023 (3 games). The "Eagles" have picked up 30 points at home this term – since the introduction of three points per win, they have only ever managed as many or more points from their first 15 home games of a campaign in 2020/21 (33).
Both teams excel in quick counterattacks. Eintracht Frankfurt have taken the most shots following counter-attacks of any side this season (47) and RB Leipzig the second most (40). SGE have also scored the most goals on the counter (9), while the "Red Bulls" are joint fourth in this ranking (6).
Eintracht Frankfurt's right flank has helped create 108 chances in the Bundesliga this season, with only FC Bayern (164) and Bayer 04 Leverkusen (113) producing more. Opponents RB Leipzig have allowed their opponents to create 114 chances from this area of the pitch, with only Holstein Kiel (119) and Borussia Mönchengladbach (116) more vulnerable down that side.
RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko recorded his 17th Bundesliga goal contribution of the season last time out (12 goals, 5 assists), bettering his tally from the whole of 2023/24 (16). However, he's failed to have a hand in a goal in any of his last five Bundesliga away games, his longest wait in the division.
Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig is available again after serving a yellow-card suspension. The Dutchman scored a brace against Wolfsburg in his last game (3-2 win) and has had a hand in 10 Bundesliga goals in 2025 (7 goals, 3 assists) – only Bayern's Harry Kane has been involved in more goals this calendar year (12). Leipzig average 1.8 points per game with Simons in the starting line-up this season, compared to 1.2 without him.
