CRAZY STAT FROM KING POWER: NO HOME GOAL SCORED FOR 630 MINUTES

Leicester City – Newcastle United

April 7th, 2025

King Power Stadium will be the venue for a clash between teams in completely different situations. The home side Leicester City is fighting for mere survival in the Premier League, while Newcastle United is heading toward participation in European competitions. The Foxes are also on the verge of a sad historical record - seven home defeats in a row without scoring a goal puts them in the same situation as Manchester City in 2007 and Watford in the 1971/72 season. If Leicester were to lose to Newcastle without scoring, they would become the first team in English professional league history to lose eight home games in a row without scoring a single goal.

Unfortunately, the Fox could easily become prey for the experienced Magpies. Newcastle have won 14 of their last 18 Premier League matches against newly promoted clubs, including the last six in a row. If Eddie Howe's men were to win this time as well, they would achieve seven consecutive wins against newcomers, which they last managed between October 2013 and November 2014.

Newcastle has also found the recipe for success against Leicester. After a period between May 2015 and December 2021, when the Foxes won 9 of 12 mutual encounters, the Magpies are now unbeaten in four consecutive matches. In the last three league duels, they even kept a clean sheet against Leicester, which is more than in the previous 16 mutual matches combined.

Newcastle's away form is remarkable. In the current season, the Magpies have already won seven matches on opponents' grounds, and if they were to add an eighth win, they would reach a milestone that they surpassed only once during Eddie Howe's era (8 wins in the 2022-23 season). Before Howe's arrival, they achieved 8 or more away wins only three times in club history - 9 in the 1993-94 season under Kevin Keegan, 9 in the 2001-02 season under Bobby Robson, and 8 in the 2011-12 season with Alan Pardew.

The home stadium has become a real curse for Leicester. They have already lost ten times here this season, which equals the club's negative record from the 1913-14, 1977-78, 1994-95, and 2022-23 seasons. An eleventh home defeat would establish a new historical anti-record for the club.

The situation at King Power Stadium is bizarre in terms of goals scored. Since December, when Bobby De Cordova-Reid equalized in the duel with Brighton to make it 2-2, all 18 subsequent goals at this stadium have been scored by visiting teams. A longer series was recorded in Premier League history only by West Bromwich Albion, when 22 consecutive goals were scored by visitors at their stadium in the 2020-21 season. What's interesting is that this series was also ended by De Cordova-Reid, then still in a Fulham jersey.

The home team's coach Ruud van Nistelrooy is experiencing a steep fall. After a successful start to the season, when he was unbeaten in his first four home Premier League games (with Manchester United and Leicester), he has lost his last seven home duels. Only Daniel Farke with Norwich between June 2020 and September 2021 lost eight home games in a row in Premier League history.

Newcastle will rely on their Swedish star Alexander Isak, who has an exceptional record against teams threatened with relegation. In his last six matches against teams that started the duel in the relegation zone, he has scored eight goals, including five in the last two duels - a hat-trick against Ipswich in December and two goals against Southampton in January.
