AFC Bournemouth - Manchester United

Sunday's Premier League clash between Bournemouth and Manchester United features a team enjoying their best-ever season against a traditional giant in deep crisis. The Cherries have a chance to make more history, while the Red Devils are fighting to salvage their season.

Bournemouth are experiencing an unprecedented period of success against Manchester United. The south coast side is unbeaten in their last three Premier League meetings (2 wins, 1 draw) and have picked up as many points in these games (7) as they had in their first twelve encounters with the Red Devils (2 wins, 1 draw, 9 losses).

Manchester United's defense has recently struggled significantly against Bournemouth. United have conceded eight goals in their last three Premier League games against Bournemouth, as many as they had in their previous eleven meetings combined.

Bournemouth now have the opportunity to become the sixth different team to complete the league double over Manchester United this season. If they succeed, it would be United's highest number of league "doubles" against them in a single season since 1933-34 (6) and the highest in a top-flight campaign since 1930-31 (9).

The Cherries have earned 49 points in the Premier League this season, their highest ever tally in the competition, surpassing their 48 points from the 2023-24 season. They're now within reach of becoming the 40th different team to achieve a 50+ point Premier League season. The last team to reach this milestone for the first time was Brentford in the 2022-23 season (59 points).

Bournemouth are also looking to record three consecutive Premier League clean sheets, which would be their first such streak since November 2019. Interestingly, the third game in that previous sequence was a 1-0 home victory against Manchester United.

In contrast, Manchester United are experiencing one of their worst seasons in modern history. The team has failed to score in 13 different Premier League games this season, the third-worst record in the competition after Leicester (15) and Everton (14). United last failed to score in more league games in a single season in 1989-90 (16).

United have already lost 15 league games this season, their most in a single Premier League campaign. They last suffered more league defeats in a season in 1989-90 (16).

Manchester United's defense is particularly vulnerable at set-pieces. Only Wolves (12) have conceded more goals from corners in the Premier League this season than Manchester United (11). Moreover, 24% of all goals United have conceded have come from corners, the highest proportion of any team this season.

In individual statistics, Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo stands out with 116 shots in the Premier League this season, tied with Mohamed Salah for the most in the competition. This is the highest number of shots a Bournemouth player has ever recorded in a single top-flight campaign.

For Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes remains the key playmaker, having created 77 chances in this Premier League season, the second-highest number after Cole Palmer (78). Fernandes also has nine assists this season and has only reached double figures for assists in the Premier League once, in 2020-21 (12).
