BATTLE OF INVINCIBILITY: BANÍK'S RECORD AMBITIONS AGAINST DUKLA'S GOALLESS FORTRESS

FK Dukla Praha – FC Baník Ostrava

April 12th, 2025

At Juliska, two teams that haven't tasted the bitterness of defeat for a long time will clash. The home team Dukla Praha is unbeaten in six consecutive Chance Liga matches (2 wins, 4 draws), which is their longest series without a loss since the turn of the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons, when they also recorded six duels without defeat (3 wins, 3 draws). Moreover, they haven't conceded a single goal in the last four matches, which they have never managed to achieve in the Czech league before.

The visiting Baník Ostrava is also undefeated in six league matches in a row (5 wins, 1 draw), the last time they accomplished something similar was between August and October 2024. The Silesians can also achieve a historic milestone if they continue their winning streak. If they were to win both remaining league matches, they would record their best placement in Chance Liga history and surpass the record of 63 points from the championship season 2003-04.

Dukla Praha is known for its intensity, which it significantly corrected in the last round against Mladá Boleslav. The Prague team caused only 10 fouls, which is the least from their spring matches. Nevertheless, they have the most fouls in the spring part of the league (128) and have also received the most yellow cards (23).

Interestingly, Dukla has scored only four goals in the first half of matches this Chance Liga season, which is the least of all teams. This is a historic record; no other team since the beginning of detailed data collection for the Czech league (from the 2009-10 season) has had so few goals scored in the first halves.

The main star of the visiting Baník is Matěj Šín, who in the last match against Sparta recorded his 11th direct goal contribution in this season's Chance Liga, at the age of 20 years and 307 days. Since Opta has been collecting detailed data for the Czech league (2020-21), there have been only four players who have collected at least 11 assists and goals in a single season while being the same age or younger – Rafiu Durosinmi (11 in the 2023-24 season), Adam Hložek (21 in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons), Michal Ševčík (16 in the 2022-23 season), and Abdallah Sima (14 in the 2020-21 season).

We thank OPTA for providing the statistical data.
